Joshua Tree Park Reflections
Joshua Tree is an all-year park. Park Boulevard runs from the visitor center to Lost Horse Valley in the heart of the park, where three short interpretive trails (Hidden Valley, Barker Dam, and Cap Rock) are a great introduction to Joshua Tree’s natural and human history. Barker Dam was built over a century ago by ranchers eager to save up some of the desert’s most vital resource, water. Barker Dam Loop reveals a small foreign-looking reservoir within the Wonderland of Rocks in Joshua tree National Park. The water can all but disappear during the dry season. The Barker Dam trail is a well-marked loop wih tall mounds of boulders rise on either side, and then suddenly, the trail emerges along the shore of a very small blue lake. The stagnant waters look out of place in this desert landscape, but the site is quite calm and worthy of a relaxing break. My photo of Joshua Tree National Park was taken in this location. This image was taken with a canon 5D, MK IV and a Canon 24-105mm lens set at 24 mm for 1/100 second at f16 and an ISO of 100.
